What is Spoken Word?
Spoken-word poetry is the presentation of poems written specifically to be performed aloud – poems that are supposed to exist on the stage, and not just the page.

ABOUT Guelph Spoken Word
Guelph Spoken Word (formerly Semantix) was founded in November 2008 by Beth Anne Fischer. We got our start at the Albion Hotel presenting a Poetry Slam.

We moved forward and became a volunteer arts organization with a board of directors and set of dedicated volunteers. Through support from other community organizations and partnerships we have grown to present monthly and annual spoken word events, workshops, and form a Guelph Poetry Slam team.  Our organization provides opportunities for local artists to perform and audiences to enjoy professional spoken word performances from Canadian and the US poets.

We strive to support our local poets in any way needed.
